Ruben Aguilar Obituary – Austin American-Statesman

Ruben Aguilar

Kyle – Ruben Aguilar, 74, of Kyle Texas was called home by our Lord Jesus Christ on January 28, 2022.

Ruben was born to Daniel and Matilde Aguilar on September 6, 1947 in San Marcos, Texas where he was raised with his siblings Rafaela, Jesse, Luis and Dolores. He graduated from San Marcos High School where he met the love of his life, Mary.

Ruben and Mary were married shortly after graduation, and he was soon drafted into the US Army. A patriot, he dutifully served his country for two years in the Vietnam War. When he returned, they lived in Colorado for two years then settled in Austin and raised four children: Lesley, Ruby, Amy and Brian.

A classic car enthusiast, avid runner and lover of good food, Ruben also enjoyed watching documentaries about various animals and insects. He loved animals and always found them fascinating. On any given Sunday during football season, you could find him on the sofa cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys. And for a number of years, he participated and ran in the Cap 10K.

Ruben was a talented car mechanic and knowledgeable computer repair tech. In his younger years, often you could find him in the driveway, under the hood of one of the family cars, cursing and grumbling while repairing a problem or changing the oil. He was the ever-dependable dad that you could call on when your car left you stranded on the side of the road. In his later years, but before Parkinson’s Disease robbed him of his dexterity, he spent much of his free time tinkering with computer systems.

A man of few words, Ruben could unexpectedly disarm you with his wide grin and carefree attitude. He will be remembered for his dad jokes that he told at what seemed like inopportune times but truly, it was always perfect timing.

His family is comforted knowing that he is now reunited with his loving wife of 53 years, Mary, who recently passed away on January 20, 2022.

Ruben is preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his parents and his sister, Dolores. He is survived by his children, Lesley (and husband David Rodriguez), Ruby (and husband Rey Sigala), Amy (and husband Bobby Jones), Brian Aguilar and his grandchildren Mariana, Marissa, Gina, Grayson and Tilly.

A visitation and Vigil service will be held on Monday, February 7 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm which will include a recitation of the Holy Rosary at Harrell Funeral Home, 1715 Kirby, Kyle TX.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 8 at 10:00 am at St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church, 801 N Burleson, Kyle TX followed by a private burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making a donation in Ruben’s memory to St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church.
