Great Western Railway (GWR) website & mobile app down or not working

The Great Western Railway, popularly known as GWR, is a train operating company based in the United Kingdom. Owned by FirstGroup, the network covers more than 197 stations.

While the main operating regions include London, Thames Valley, South Wales, and South West England, it also runs in West Midlands and South East England.

Unsurprisingly, it also has a mobile app and a website for buying tickets and tracking journeys, amongst other things.

Having said that, recent reports from users suggest that the Great Western Railway app and website are either down or not working at the moment. People are angry and say the problem is making it impossible to sign up for the service or book and view tickets.

Some say they already tried clearing cookies, changing browsers, and reinstalling the mobile app but nothing seems to help with the problem. Below are some reports from users complaining about the Great Western Railway app and website being down.

@GWRHelp Hi. Is your website not working because of this promotion please? I’m trying to book for Saturday and it searches then throws me out or brings up various errors of tickets not available. Thanks

@GWRHelp can someone explain why I try to book tickets and pay an error message appears? I have tried twice to order tickets and now bank statement shows 2x money pending and I have had no confirmation?! Does this mean it’s not worked? The website is ridiculous to book!!

Thankfully, Great Western Railway developers have commented on the matter and said they are aware of the issue where the website and app are down or not working.

They also said that the problem surfaced because of high traffic on the website which might be because of the ongoing ‘The Great British Rail Sale’. Also, there is no ETA on when the issue will be resolved.

Hi, we are aware of a technical issue due to high volumes of traffic on the website currently and our web team are investigating this. We hope to have the issue resolved as soon as possible and apologise for the inconvenience caused – Jess
